The Team

Mary is the owner / operator of BEST Dog Grooming and has lived in the Maitland area for 30+ years.

Mary studied dog training for 18 months with the Delta Institute of dog training and has a knowledge-based insight into dog behaviour.

After years working in an office environment Mary decided to expand her love and knowledge of dogs and train as a groomer. She has been running her own Maitland-based mobile grooming business since 2018.

Briody, who joined Mary in 2020, shares her love and genuine care for dogs.

Briody’s expertise is with large dogs. She is an experienced groomer who loves nothing more than making big pooches beautiful.

Born and bred in Maitland Briody understands local needs.

As a previous dog sitter Briody has known and loved many dog breeds but has a soft spot for black labs. Currently Briody is owned by 2 slightly used black labs.

The Name

The name BEST is an amalgamation of the first letters of my dog’s names:
Beck, Ebony, Spencer and Taffy. They also feature in the business logo

Beck

At 4 years old, Beck was freed from a puppy farm where she was used as a breeder. She had spent all of her life locked in a cage with minimal human contact. She was severely emotionally and physically damaged as a result.

It took 2 years of love, patience and the input of trainers and behaviouralists to win Beck’s trust and give her confidence in her world.

Beck now loves life. Her favourite activities are eating, going to the beach, eating, nose work, eating and going on adventures. Did I mention eating?

Ebony

Ebony, my first foster fail was a ray of sunshine. Used and discarded by a backyard breeder, Ebony was 6 years old when she joined our family. Cheeky, loyal and independent, Ebony was a constant companion who loved going for drives with her nose out the window. No adventure was too much.

She was a very special girl who remains in my thoughts and my heart but sadly, at 17 Ebony crossed the rainbow bridge.

Spencer

Spencer, the only boy in the quartet, came to us at 4 years old; 12 months after Beck. Through a change in family circumstances Spencer needed a new home and we were lucky enough to give him ours.

Spencer is the calm, confident dog in the family and was the ideal playmate for an anxious Beck. He is the ambassador of the group. Living with people-shy females he is the one who laps up the attention of strangers and loves his cuddles

Taffy

Our newest addition at 4 years old, Taffy also joined us after being freed from a puppy farm. Shy and fearful of strangers, Taffy is on her journey of healing. She relies heavily on Beck and Spencer but is turning into a delightful, cheeky and affectionate girl. Stay tuned for Taffy updates.

Because taffy was not socialised as a pup she is now scared of new people. It takes her a long time to get used to people but with patience and repetition she is slowly becoming more confident.
